Insurance Representation

The firm has, for over 70 years, provided representation and advice to the insurance industry doing business in the State of Oklahoma. Kerr, Irvine, Rhodes & Ables has broad experience in the establishment, incorporating and licensing of insurance companies, preparing and seeking approval of insurance policies, filing rates and policies before the Oklahoma Insurance Department, rate and policy filings for life, accident and health insurance, guiding insurance companies in compliance with governing statutes and regulations, effecting mergers and other combinations of insurance companies as well as insurance policy coverage issues and policy interpretation. The firm also has extensive experience in the insurer liquidation area and has represented various parties in insolvency proceedings in a number of states. J. Angela Ables was a former Deputy Commissioner and General Counsel of the Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner's office.

The firm has provided legal defense to insurers in all lines of insurance at both the trial court and appellate levels. Due to the firm's unique understanding of insurance and insurers, it has and continues to act as outside counsel to numerous national insurers who do business in the State of Oklahoma. Insurance defense has always and continues to be a high area of concentration of the law firm's involvement and expertise. Life, accident and health, property and casualty, and liability defense are but a few of the areas of the firm's insurance litigation practice in both Oklahoma and Texas. Johnny Blassingame is licensed in Oklahoma and Texas and has been involved in multi-jurisdictional litigation where he provided insurance defense representation to insurers. He regularly advises insurers on the “ins and outs” of bad faith and provides representation in all types of litigation matters. James Rhodes oversees all appellate work for the firm and has been involved in numerous appellate matters on behalf of clients in complex issues involving business disputes.
